Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) in New Haven have the ability to provide for their patients daily needs as well as track their progress under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse. To become a LPN you must complete an associate’s degree in nursing or obtain a licensed practical nursing certification. Completion allows you to begin working with patients full time as a LPN. 

It Could All Be Taken Away

Licensure as a LPN is not guaranteed after one receives their degree. The Board of Examiners for Nurses handles any disciplinary actions that need to be taken, and has the power to revoke a license they deem necessary. Some reasons a license may be revoked are: 

Diversion of drugs. LPNs may be responsible for tracking medication intake. Taking medication intended for the patient is a violation and could result in criminal charges. 

Forging patient and/or supervisor’s signature. LPNs are to work under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse. Any and all issues should be brought to the supervisors attention, and not handled solely by the LPN. 

Failure to protect patient information. Patient records are confidential and patients trust that their information is used solely for their health and wellbeing. Failure to protect the confidentiality of patient information could result in a revoked license.
