Becoming a tattoo technician in Hartford requires an extensive background and proper licensure. Those wishing to become a tattoo technician must be at least eighteen years old, successfully complete a course that complies with federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards for disease prevention, hold a first aid certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association, and verify over 2,000 hours of practical training under a licensed tattoo technician (or have five years of continuous practice prior to January 1, 2015).

Once these requirements have been met, candidates may apply with the Department of Public Health for their license. This department is responsible for issuing licenses as well as suspending and revoking licenses. A few reasons a license may be revoked are:
