Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - The License Lawyers

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) you specialize in the daily care of patients, from monitoring their needs to discussing their care and concerns. To become a LPN, you must have either a licensed practical nursing certificate or an associate degree in nursing. Both paths require in class and on-site practical education. Once you have successfully completed and graduated from the nursing program you must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses.

When Your License is on the Line

Becoming a LPN allows you to work first hand with patients. As with every medical profession, guidelines and standards are in place to protect both the workers and the patients. The state Board of Examiners for Nursing is responsible for disciplinary action against LPNs, which could result in a revocation of one’s license. Some reasons a license could be revoked are:

Failure to comply with probation. Not all offenses will result in a revoked license, but in the chance the license is not revoked, one may be placed on a probationary period with the Board. Failing to comply with the terms of the probation could lead to a complete loss of one’s license.

Failure to meet standard of care. Many patients will have physical and mental sensitivities when they need the help of an LPN. It is important to give all patients the care they need to maintain or improve their health.

Diversion of medication. Access to medication is a part of the LPN job, and it is important that you be trusted with the medications you encounter on a daily basis.
